Celebrities I’ve Fallen in Love With

Ok, we all develop celebrity crushes, they are a comfort as it’s a fantasy and very unlikely that you will ever meet them. Therefore you can create any version of a fairy tale you want and it will never get destroyed or crushed by reality. I was thinking that I never really questioned why I fell so madly in love with these celebrities at the time I did or what was going on. It actually was very interesting psychological exercise, so if you ever get bored then go through your own list and hopefully you find a rich vein of insights into your own development/how you pick or idealise your perfect partner… Oh and I was a kid so the first two are cartoon characters, I’m not that weird lol…

1st Celebrity Love

Name: Tuxedo Mask

TV Show/ Movie: Sailor Moon

My Age: 7

Reason: Yes, I am very aware it is a cartoon character. I was a child and very lonely at the time and the only real break I got from my very confusing school life was the few tv shows after 3pm. Now obviously I loved Sailor Moon and therefore fell in love with Tuxedo Mask as her love interest in the show.

Why did I love him? Well from a young age you watch animated movies of Fairy tales and when you really think about the princess’s love interest, well they are hardly part of the story right? They don’t really have a personality, which again kind of goes with the whole, create your own fantasy, not be forced to love someone you probably don’t. But the one thing most had in common was… they were dressed really nicely/formally and looked like a prince.

So to a kid, well a tuxedo is extremely fancy and he obviously is a prince! Pretty easy logic there. I mean when we talk about trust, who would you trust more to look after you if you were lost, the smartly dressed man or the beach bum busking on the corner? This of course unfortunatly changes when you reach puberty, but thats life.

Ok, did not remember the show being this bad. I’m really embarrassed that I loved it this much. Um, I have no explaination…. (Btw been singing this song non-stop… think my brain hooked onto it as a kid and now I can’t stop.)

2nd Celebrity Love

Name: Vegeta

TV Show/ Movie: Dragon Ball Z

My Age: 7-9

Reason: Ok, this one is harder to explain. I’m not going to lie. Vegeta represented everything that you would consider bad in a love interest. He was arrogant, petty, jealous, impatient and well a basic bad guy. Now at this stage of my development I think I was realising that there was no such thing as a totally good person in reality. So you had to accept bad and good and find the balance. I saw Vegeta as this mix between the bad points which I mentioned and then the good points which were very similar to my own good points, which most people ignore because they aren’t looking past the surface. The good points were that he was strong, determined, fiercely loyal, protective and smart. All things people tend not to notice about me as well.

I get the same level of angry when people aren’t understanding me as Vegeta does. I am desperately trying to get them to understand and feeling like they purposefully are being ignorant as they tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. No, you idiot I know exactly what I am saying, you are not understanding me and it is making me frustrated trying to explain an entire book to you when you are focussing on the first sentence.

Vegeta is pretty selfish, but he truly does love Bulma and his son. Even if he acts like a meanie to Goku and eveyone else lol.

Plus really envy the ability to go super saiyan and try to take over the planet. Lol.

Vegeta was more complex than simple and good Goku. Though saying that good guys don’t finish last…

3rd Celebrity Love

Character Name: Hercules

Actor Name: Kevin Sorbo

TV Show/Movie: The Legendary Journeys of Hercules

My Age: 8 -10ish?

Reason: Hercules is safe. He could easily protect against monsters and was always good. Had no concern about him hurting me and could always trust him. He was a safe character and even to this day, when I see Kevin Sorbo, it makes me think about the same childhood safety I felt from him.

4th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Legolas

Actor Name: Orlando Bloom

TV Show/Movie: Lord of the Rings The Two Towers

My Age: 14

Reason: I was a teenager and fell hard for the tall elven warrior, with beautiful long golden hair and pointy ears. Probably teenage hormones, but I was convinced that obviously Orlando Bloom was actually this elf and would eventually cross my path, fall madly in love with me and we’d obviously live happily ever after in Rivendell…

Took archery just in case. By the way, now I’ve always been very strong and I could pull the bow string back pretty far, which many of my class mates failed almost instantly, but unfortunately I could not aim. You probably agree in a wide open space that this is not a serious issue, but as many motorists, random people on the field, running for their lives as I managed to shoot an arrow randomly in the air would attest, that aim is a need for archery. I can’t explain the almost tearful joy of my teacher as I decided to sit out for the rest of the lesson as the maintenance professional went in search for my arrows up the trees, on the concert hall roof, around the corner at the end of the block…

Anyway, so eventually my eternal love for Orlando Bloom faded. Mostly because he shot my next love with an arrow in the heel…

5th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Achilles

Actor Name: Brad Pitt

TV Show/Movie: Troy

My Age: 16

Reason: Brad Pitt is just perfect. If you were a lesbian or straight man, you still would not kick him out of your bed. He is a masterpiece in physical form. I was shocked as I didn’t think he could actually get any more beautiful and then he chose the role of Achilles in Troy. The muscles, took his perfection to a new level. This was super human level of gorgeous. I am being completely honest here, this is the first time that I did not care about personality. He didn’t need it.

This fight scene is amazing. It shows both characters dignity and strength, while also showing that both are respected during and through the fight. The struggle between Achilles own internal need for revenge and his own ethics in battle play out brilliantly. Hector, as a tragic hero also makes the audience hope even if they know the story. The respect shown and fought against by Achilles is heartbreaking. You can see the pain in every blink and action after it has ended. Flipping hell, the feelings that this scene captured both awed me and made me feel that my own perception of feeling could never measure it’s brilliance. Bravo.

This movie was basically a treasure for straight women. You have the star being Brad Pitt as Achilles, then poor tragic hero, Hector, who also did not disappoint. I had been in love with Orlando Bloom before as Legolas, but unfortunately I have always found Paris in ancient mythology to be a rather opportunistic and selfish character. I thought it was terrible that he caused his entire city to be destroyed because of Helen’s beauty… yes, I do get the irony of my basing my entire love for Brad Pitt on his looks, here hypocrisy seems pretty strong. Anyway… moving on…

Oh sorry also wanted to mention the talented Sean Bean and wished they had done another movie on Odysseus as I loved that story as a child. I see it might be coming up as a movie, Oh my word it’s today! – Oh dear they cast Matt Damon hmmm…

6th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Anakin/Darth Vader

Actor Name: Hayden Christensen

TV Show/Movie: Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith

My Age: 17

Reason: Okay, I’m back to loving the misunderstood bad guy again. We all go through these fazes, but this is largely due to his music. I really love it whenever I was walking down a hallway at work and my mobile phone went off and the Darth Vader tune played lol. Made me feel powerful. Kind of saying, ‘Hey, if you upset me, I will make a giant death star’. Love the logic. Then getting James Earl Jones voice when he rises as Darth Vader. Perfection.

Anakin is a pretty decent guy. He really loves (kinda scary obsession, but ok) Padme and won’t let anyone stop him. That’s why I felt so sorry for Obi-Wan Kenobi as he was trying to help the poor kid, but Anakin was lost to his own obsessive thoughts to the point where he hurt the love he was trying to protect. Very sad. But I love Darth Vader and really sympathise with him being pulled in the wrong direction. I’m impressed at his unstoppable determination. Not enough people to fight a war, that’s ok lets clone someone. He basically made a terrible mistake and got badly hurt by it. Then instead of saying sorry, well he builds a flipping death star! That takes some real doubling-down. While most would say stupid, I think it’s kinda awesome. It would be the same as you punishing a teenager for crashing the car, so he goes and steals a tank? Perfectly understandable reaction… I think that I loved him because he made my over reactions seem pretty sane in comparison?

7th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Dean Winchester

Actor Name: Jensen Ackles

TV Show/Movie: Supernatural

My Age: 19/20

Reason: Yes, he is gorgeous and yes he is also strong. He also fights monsters! Who wouldn’t feel safe. Yep, gone back to the safety need. He also seems like he has a good sense of humour, loyalty, strong morals and ethics… even when he turned into a demon! Flaws are probably that he is a bit arrogant (where have we heard that before?), bit of a dog, stubborn and I honestly think we would just argue twenty-four seven. His character kind of dominates without allowing room for compromise or growth. That would trap me and I would resent him. But sometimes you make mistakes in love. Best thing to do is sit back down and watch a different tv show or movie lol.

8th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Kevin Doyle

Actor Name: James Marsden

TV Show/Movie: 27 Dresses

My Age: 20

Reason: James Marsden is beautiful. His eyes have a hypnotic ability with me. I do not know why, but I used to just stare at his perfect features and amazing eyes for the entire movie. I know stuff was going on in the movie, but I didn’t really care. Plus his character is so calm and unflustered. I am one of those people who is semi chaotic and need someone to be stable when I go off with the fairies, so I enjoy that type of personality.

Got really upset in X-Men when they took away his best attribute (his hypnotic eyes!). Loved him as the Prince in Enchanted. He’s done some really good movies and tv series. He is one of the celebrities that get trapped in a time warp and you don’t realise they are older than they look.

9th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Declan/ Ben Calder

Actor Name: Matthew Goode

TV Show/Movie: Leap Year/Chasing Liberty

My Age: 22

Reason: He has two movies that I love and then quite a few other things he’s done which are amazing. But why I keep falling for this guy, well. First one was Chasing Liberty. He plays a security guard to the presidents daughter and he just is, I know forgive my repetition, calm. He has a job to do and he does it, no matter the absurdity. The way he reacts to her character is just lovely. He doesn’t curse, get angry or do anything to make her feel stupid. He just goes along with the plan, even if he thinks it’s insane.

Then I see him in Leap Year and that was cruel as he decided to use my weakness against me by his character having an Irish accent. Don’t know why I love Irish accents, they just sound like music to my ears. His character is a bit grumpy in this movie, but same kind of calm as well. I think he portrays the stoic introvert playing against a loud and impulsive extrovert brilliantly.

10th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Detective Richard Pool

Actor Name: Ben Miller

TV Show/Movie: Death in Paradise

My Age: 23

Reason: I generally go for beauty over brains, but this is where I do a major left turn. Ben Miller is possibly one of the funniest British actors that I have seen from his work. But then he did the stint as the serious OCD Detective in Death in Paradise and I fell completely in love with him. I could relate to his discomfort at being thrust into this supposed ‘paradise’. But he does what he needs to in order to catch the killers. He is incredibly smart and see’s more than the usual detective, often surprising everyone with random facts. I think I empathise with Camille’s fondness and love for Detective Richard Pool and when they killed him off the show I was devastated. It is a brilliant show, but I really resented that decision. They picked dear Nick (My Family character) or better known as Kris Marshall to replace him and it worked, but I didn’t like that they killed Ben’s character and mourned him with Camille.

11th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Captain Killian Hook

Actor Name: Colin O’Donoghue

TV Show/Movie: Once Upon a Time

My Age: 30

Reason: I think it is hilarious that they made the original effeminate and clumsy Captain Hook from the 1953 movie and replaced him with this gorgeous man. Can you imagine from all the adults that watched the original getting concerned that their teenage daughters are on drugs because they hear them saying “Wow, I have the biggest crush on Captain Hook! He’s so dreamy! I’m going to marry someone like him when I grow up!”

Aside from that, why fall in love with him? Okay, begins with him challenging the main character and being a bad boy, yes always a trend. But then it turns out he’s much more. He shows that he has a sense of duty and his tragic past makes me want to hug him and tell him it will be ok. I tend to do that care taker thing with all the tragic ones. Still trying to figure out how I could give Darth Vader a hug without being stabbed with the suit or hurting him as lets face it, he fell into lava… anyway. I fell out of love with him after he became way too co-dependant on the lead and he became much more whiney rather than decisive. But I have major problems with anyone acting co-dependant rather than at least having a slight sense of individuality and independence. It is very off putting.

12th Celebrity Love

Character Name: Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings

Actor Name: Regé-Jean Page

TV Show/Movie: Bridgerton

My Age: 32

Reason: Look at that perfect face. This is the same thing as Brad Pitt where the absolute beauty just is perfection. This was the first time I fell in love with an actor in about a decade and he took my breath away. Plus lets face it, covid was causing us to be completely inside and so we may have had more daydream time for the hunky star in the period drama. I have found the show lost a lot of my attention when I found out that Regé-Jean Page’s role wasn’t going to be in the other seasons. They got the hottest guy first and anything after that is a big let down. I think I honestly only liked the show because I was in love with the dear Duke.

By the way, the Duke is another one I would argue with constantly. While I find his very commanding presence both peaceful and sexy, I would in reality have punched him due to his pettiness and selfish behaviour.

Yep, so that’s my list of celebrities which I have fallen in love with. Did the stats, which kind of suprised me:

AttributePercentage of list
Loyal75%
Handsom/Pretty75%
Tragic/Want to look after66%
Arrogant58%
Intelligent58%
Literally fights monsters58%
Kind50%
Strong41%
Funny25%

I guess it’s kind of like in the movie Bedazzled when he reads her diary and the devil, after the wish goes wrong asks “So, what did we learn?” then he says, “That women don’t really know what they want?”

  1. Loyalty can stay high.
  2. In real life I dislike overly pretty men as they generally are extremely vain.
  3. Tragic is a bad thing as it makes any person a bit overly needy and I get annoyed easily. As mentioned I also hate co-dependance. Be your own person!
  4. Arrogance I won’t really tolerate easily, even if I am quite arrogant and kick myself each time I hear myself. Have an odd mix of self confidence and self berating that goes on when I feel proud of something.
  5. Intelligence is good, but not the type where they make fun of others ignorance. Using intelligence for good is needed, not the arrogant type. I work with a lot of arrogant intelligent people and I get embarrassed for them and their own self importance.
  6. Fighting monsters is a good idea, but I think I’m more equating it to the idea they are brave. I had a partner who kept making me sleep on the closest spot to the door and when I asked why, “so the murderer will kill you first”… bad, instant loss of respect you coward.
  7. Kindness is a must. I hate cruel people. If I see a tiny bit of cruelty I leave.
  8. Strong is nice to have. Means you don’t immasculate them when you are able to lift the sofa by yourself and open jars.
  9. Funny I’d rate as my highest need. I hate it when people don’t have a sense of humour.

Thanks for reading, these are just my random thoughts, should probably do a pondering post instead lol.
