Five Nights at Freddy’s
2023 ‧ M ‧ 1h 49m

Director – Emma Tammi
Writers – Emma Tammi, Scott Cawthon, Seth Cuddeback
Plot
In 2000, mall security guard Mike Schmidt is fired for assaulting a father whom he had mistaken for a kidnapper. Mike’s career counselor, Steve Raglan, offers him a job as a night guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a once-successful abandoned pizzeria. Mike accepts after social services threaten to take custody of his younger sister, Abby, and pass her to their estranged aunt, Jane, who desires the monthly custody payments.

During his first night, Mike falls asleep and has a nightmare about the kidnapping of his younger brother, Garrett. Within the nightmare, he meets five children who also witnessed the event. The next day, Jane hires a gang of vandals, including Abby’s babysitter, Max, to vandalize the pizzeria and get Mike fired, hastening her custody of Abby. Mike meets police officer Vanessa Shelly, who explains that the building closed during the 1980s after five children went missing there. Once Mike’s shift ends and he leaves, the vandals break in, but the pizzeria’s animatronic mascots—Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Mr. Cupcake—kill the entire group.

On his third night, Mike brings Abby to work when Max fails to show. The animatronics befriend her and Mike discovers that they are possessed by the spirits of the missing children, who consistently mention a “yellow rabbit”. Vanessa warns Mike not to touch the ‘springlock’ suits, which contain internal gears with a faulty design that can impale the wearer. On the fourth night, Abby is accidentally injured while bonding with the animatronics. The next day, Mike reluctantly allows Jane to babysit Abby while he goes back to Freddy’s with sleeping pills, hoping to induce more dreams to learn what happened to Garrett. In the dream, the children offer for Mike to stay with Garrett forever in exchange for Abby. Mike initially accepts, but when he changes his mind, he is attacked and injured by Foxy. A disused Freddy animatronic incapacitates Jane and brings Abby back to the pizzeria.

Vanessa reveals that she is the daughter of William Afton, the serial killer who kidnapped and murdered Garrett and the other children. He hid their bodies in the animatronics and now their souls are under his control. Realizing the animatronics plan to murder Abby and have her join them in the afterlife, Mike rushes to the pizzeria and thwarts the animatronics, but Afton arrives in the yellow rabbit suit and reactivates them. He unmasks, reveals himself to be Raglan, and stabs Vanessa. Mike reminds Abby that the animatronics like drawings and tells her to show them what really happened. Abby draws a picture of Afton murdering the children to free them from his influence and make them realize the truth. The animatronics attack Afton, activating his suit’s springlock mechanisms and wounding him before dragging him away.

Mike, Abby and Vanessa flee as the building collapses. Vanessa falls into a coma and is hospitalized, while Mike and Abby reconcile. At the pizzeria, the leader of the children watches Afton dying in the suit before leaving him to his fate.

Timeline
Freddy’s pizzeria has been closed for decades in the movie, while in the first game, it is still operating.
The movie takes place around the year 2000, whereas the first game is set in 1993.
Animatronics
Golden Freddy’s possessor is a boy, not original Cassidy from games.

The anamatronics are less aggressive and more understanding than in the games. They don’t just attack, they seem friendly to Abby and tolerate Mike and Vanessa.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Director – Emma Tammi
Writers – Scott Cawthon
Plot
In 1982, at the first Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza restaurant, Charlotte Emily witnesses its co-founder William Afton lure a boy into the back rooms to kill him. Her pleas for help are ignored by nearby parents, so she rescues the boy herself despite the protestations of her best friend Vanessa, William’s daughter. Charlotte is fatally stabbed by William, falls through an onstage trapdoor, and is held by the Marionette animatronic. The incident is suppressed, and the restaurant is subsequently shut down. Another restaurant in the Freddy Fazbear’s franchise opens some time later, where William murders five more children.

In 2002, two years after William was killed by the spirits of his victims at the franchise location, the legends of the murders spawn a horror festival called “Fazfest”. Abby misses her ghostly friends and repeatedly asks her older brother Mike to repair the animatronics they inhabited. Believing the spirits are dangerous and have moved on, Mike repeatedly makes excuses until Abby returns to the franchise location herself. Mike finds her there, apologizes for lying, and discovers a talking toy called the FazTalker. Meanwhile, the adult Vanessa struggles with the trauma of her father’s crimes and abuse.
Ghost hunters Lisa, Alex, and Rob tour the original restaurant with its security guard Michael. Lisa finds and deactivates a music box, awakening the Marionette, which is possessed by Charlotte’s vengeful spirit. The Marionette possesses Lisa, takes control of the restaurant’s “Toy” animatronics, and kills Alex and Rob. Abby receives a message on the FazTalker from Toy Chica, whom she believes to be the Chica possessed by her friend from the franchise restaurant. She visits the original location, where Toy Chica helps her build a robot for a school science fair. Vanessa grows concerned for Abby’s safety after learning this, but Mike dismisses her, having learned of Charlotte’s murder and of Vanessa’s connection to it.

Vanessa travels to the original restaurant, discovers the Marionette has awakened, and is captured by the possessed Lisa. However, the animatronics cannot leave unless their safeguards are disabled. Meanwhile, Abby’s science project is destroyed by her unsupportive teacher, Mr. Berg. She returns to the original restaurant and disables the safeguards at Toy Chica’s request to be her new project. While meeting with Charlotte’s father Henry, Mike learns that Abby has gone missing from school. Mike heads to the original restaurant after Henry gives him a new music box to leave there for Charlotte.

At Abby’s school, Toy Chica kills Mr. Berg. The other Toy animatronics begin hunting parents, whom Charlotte seeks revenge against for ignoring her pleas for help. Mike frees Vanessa, who pursues the Toy animatronics, while Mike remains at the original restaurant to remotely track them while fending off Withered prototype animatronics. The Marionette, having abandoned Lisa’s corpse to hide inside Toy Chica, possesses Abby. Realizing they are outnumbered, Mike returns to the franchise restaurant and pleads for the possessed animatronics to help Abby.

Mike and Vanessa return to Mike’s home, where he uses the music box to lull the Marionette back to sleep and free Abby. They are surrounded by the Toy animatronics and Michael, Vanessa’s brother who wants to continue William’s murders. He orders the Toy animatronics to kill them, but the possessed animatronics arrive and destroy the Toy animatronics, before their safeguards cause them to shut down; Michael escapes. The possessed animatronics enter the afterlife, warning that they will no longer be able to hold “him” back. Mike leaves with Abby, telling Vanessa to stay away as he no longer trusts her. Alone, Vanessa is possessed by the Marionette.

At the franchise location, the animatronic suit containing William’s body is found and activates.

Differences to Games
The Marionette/Puppet
The Marionette is openly hostile in the movie, but in the game she acts more protective and good.

The Marionette seems to possess people, which is an unexplained event. The Marionette in the games can control the animatronics and Michael Afton even says that she does this through wifi. But how did she possess Lisa then Abby and finally Vanessa?

Animatronics (Other)

Elizabeth Afton as a child (now Vanessa Shelly) possesses Circus Baby originally, we see Circus Baby in the closet in her dream, but that is her only scene.
The Toy FNAF characters have switched locations being in the previous restaurant rather than the otherway around. So they downgraded them for the new restaurant in the movie?
Characters
Michael Afton instead of Jeremy Fitzgerald/Fritz Smith as the night security guard.
Michael Afton was always working against the animatronics, not helping to wake them up like he did with the Marionette. So his backstory has changed as well.
Timeline
The timeline is messed up because the games were not in chronological order.

Also the Toy animatronics being in the old and the withered being in the newer one…
Ok, I know that we’re not meant to question but considering the old pizzeria was built in 1983 (by game lore)/1982 by the movie and Michael Afton claims that the puppet uses a WiFi signal to control the toy animatronics… Wifi was only available for use in 1997 and only had speeds around 2Mbps. Only got to 11mbps in 1999…
